York Musical Theatre Company, formally known as York Amateur Operatic & Dramatic Society, was formed in 1902 and celebrated its Centenary in 2002. The Company has staged productions continuously with the exception of the war years and is justly proud of its long record of presenting exceptional musical theatre in York.
The company perform a large-scale musical at York Theatre Royal every year, with smaller scale productions in other venues across York. These include Hooray for Hollywood, When The Lights Go On Again, Nunsense and annual Christmas shows and concerts. The company have even performed an outdoor concert of Pirates of Penzance for the re-opening of Joseph Rowntree's Park.
The Company engages a professional Director, Musical Director, Company Stage Manager and Lighting Designer who work closely with the professional stage staff at the York Theatre Royal.

The Company commissions new and innovative sets and costumes to compliment the high standards of production the Company achieves under the direction of Paul Laidlaw, our Artistic Director.
We currently have a membership of approximately 100..and it's growing every year! |
